The 2024 Musto Australian Optimist Championship has finished with Team WA punching well above its weight bringing home four trophies including first overall sailor to Murray Duthie. A huge congratulations and a well-deserved result for Murray whose commitment to the sport over many years has been unwavering.
Nicholas Cooper, Alexander Eyles and Harry Cooper took out three of the regatta’s four age-based trophies for best sailor, including best 12 year old (Nicholas), best 10 year old (Alexander) and best 9 year old (Harry) sailor.
Congratulations to all the 13 WA sailors competing across both Open (gold and silver) and Intermediate fleets. All sailors have come away with a huge experience, friendships and lots of learning to help propel them to their next level. They were supported by coaches Grant Alderson and Michael Compton to whom we extend our sincere thanks.
Congratulations also to Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club for an expertly delivered regatta – from race execution, to the hospitality, and the extra touches that made us all feel welcomed and well looked after. Thank you to all the volunteers and the competitors from around Australia and internationally. Your commitment to sportsmanship and upholding the values of the sport made this event special for all and we hope to see you again next year at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
