A huge congratulations to all of the competitors who participated at the Royal Perth Yacht Club Refined Edge Mini Series 2023. It was a wonderful opportunity for our Western Australian Sailors to compete with the travelling team from Japan.

The morning conditions on Day 1 proved challenging very hot weather and the racing being delayed due to no wind. The afternoon certainly made up for this with winds gusting to 18 knots which was a great challenge for all of the sailors competing, Thanks to the Bravo Course RO, Anna Klyne, the optimist’s were able to smash through 3 races to complete the day.

Everyone had their fingers crossed for some wind in the morning on Day 2, the intermediate optimist fleet were able to display their skills by racing in extremely light conditions to complete one race. No luck for the open fleet with the wind dying out midway throughout the race. The sailing team set the course straight after lunch, the wind kicked in and racing continued! The conditions in the afternoon session were perfect with both open and intermediates fleet’s completing three races. Super competitive racing with some great results made for a really fun regatta.

Well done to the Japanese sailors who adapted well to the windy conditions and challenged our open fleet sailors.

Finally a huge congratulations to “Goldy”, Chris Goldacre, the Mini Series marked his retirement from his longstanding position at the club. Goldy’s work with co-ordinating the Mini Series each year is unprecedented along with his continual support and encouragement of the Optimist Fleet, thanks Goldy and enjoy your semi-retirement!
