Western Australian International Optimist Dinghy Association

The Western Australian International Optimist Dinghy Association (WAIODA) is the heart of junior dinghy sailing in WA. We are here to connect young sailors and their families, foster a love of the sport, and create an environment where learning, competition, and fun go hand in hand.

At WAIODA, our mission is to support Optimist sailors at every stage of their journey — from their first time in a dinghy to representing Australia on the world stage. We provide access to high-quality coaching, development clinics, and racing opportunities across club, state, national, and international levels. Whether your sailor is just starting out or chasing championship goals, we are here to help them grow their skills, confidence, and friendships on the water.

With a strong volunteer base and a proud history — including being the first state in Australia to adopt the Optimist class — WAIODA continues to lead the way in youth sailing. We believe in fostering not just great sailors, but great people, through a community built on teamwork, resilience, and respect.
